“My passion for this work comes from personal experience.”
At fifteen, she became her mother’s caregiver during a battle with cancer after her father, who struggled with addiction, left the family. Years of trauma and responsibility eventually led her into addiction herself.
By God’s grace and mercy, she was brought out of a suicidal spiral and into a new life through recovery and faith.
She grew Smart Temporary Services from one employee into a multimillion-dollar staffing company serving seven states and over 4,000 employees, and founded Work Smart Business Consultants, a national training company.
After moving to Hilton Head Island in 2010, she founded her first nonprofit, providing scholarships, housing assistance, mentoring, and faith-based programs for children and families.
Seeing addiction’s impact on families led her to earn a Master’s in Biblical Counseling and a Doctorate in Theology, and to devote her life fully to recovery ministry.

Healing the Cry Within

Husband, father of six, and fellow traveler in recovery
Don’s own recovery began when his children started fighting their addictions.
Watching them struggle brought a lifelong fear to the surface: that they would become something other than what he hoped, and that addiction would take them. He had carried that fear his entire life as a parent, and it was more than he could handle alone.
Don believes God placed him in Recovery Church and Celebrate Recovery for his own growth, not only for the people he came to support. There he found deliverance from lifelong codependency and from the belief that he could control the outcome of his children’s lives.
“Having kids helps parents to grow up.”

B.A. Christian Studies, Anderson University · Master of Divinity
Tate brings both personal experience and a pastoral calling to recovery ministry.
His own path through addiction began in middle school with a hidden struggle that brought shame and secrecy. He found freedom, relapsed in college, and learned that recovery isn’t always a straight line. By the grace of God, he has now been free for nine years.
That journey gave him a heart for people who feel trapped, ashamed, or convinced their story is too messy for God to use. He leads a community where people can be honest about their struggles without being defined by them.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”
Ephesians 5:8Hilton Head is known for its beaches and nightlife. Behind that image, many people quietly battle addiction, isolation, homelessness, and broken relationships. We exist to bring those struggles into the light and offer a way forward.
